DESCRIPTION:
APW - Illinois, Bunn Special, 21J 60 Hour, Type III marking, green gold-filled OF original Bunn Special Model case, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, rayed pattern nickel damascene, s#5030570. The dial of this example is quite scarce and is notable for its extremely bold Arabic hour numerals in combination with outward facing arrows at each minute position; this dial is affectionately known as the "Fat Boy" style among many Bunn Special collectors and is discussed on page 284 of Michael Chamelin's Bunn Special book. The "kite" style hands seen with this example are often found in combination with this particular dial. This example is also notable for its uncommon green gold-filled case.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, oxide to perimeter of smaller winding wheel at one side, scratch at perimeter of barrel bridge adjacent case screw near adjustment markings, some micro-fine scratches to larger winding wheel; dial with very small patched edge chip under bezel at 5:30, few small adjacent outer chapter hls at 5:30, minuscule pinpoint surface nick at upper left perimeter of seconds-register to base of 55 second hash mark, some mild beveling rub of perimeter under bezel, seconds-register appears possibly to have been re-seated with a few small bits of fill material visible at the seating of its lower portion; nearly mint hands; case shows little wear, few fine scratches and profuse micro-fine scratches to rear, profuse dings to band between 1 and 4 as well as between 11 and 12, small mar to edge of rear adjacent the band below the right side of the pendant and short associated nearby scratch, good engraving detail, sliver of wear to brass to bezel adjacent crystal between 6 and 9; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal with some small beveling of its edge at upper left.
